Canada, Mexico and the U.S. agree on amendments to the new NAFTA
Representatives from Canada, Mexico and the United States signed this week an agreement on amendments to the new North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
According to the three countries, the amendments involve improvements to the new NAFTA, first signed on November 30, 2018, in the areas of:
state-to-state dispute settlement
automotive rules of origin
Further details on the amendments are available here.
Each country will now follow its domestic process toward ratification and implementation of the new agreement.
For Canada, this includes the consideration of implementing legislation by Parliament in line with normal parliamentary procedures.
